The Replica De Havilland Mosquito was a versatile aircraft manufactured in Britain during and shortly after World War II. Over 7,700 of these twin-engine, two-seater airplanes were built between 1940 and 1950. Due to shortages in aluminum and steel, engineers at the De Havilland Aircraft Company turned to wood, resulting in the “Wooden Wonder,” which astounded with its performance and became one of the fastest and most adaptable aircraft of its time.
The Replica Breitling Super AVI B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito, our test watch, draws inspiration from the design of the De Havilland Mosquito and offers a range of functions along with the distinctive features of Clone Breitling pilot watches.
Breitling’s Huit Aviation Department had gained renown in the 1930s for developing precision cockpit clocks for aviation, a field still in its infancy. In 1953, Replica Breitling introduced the Reference 765 AVI pilots’ watch, later known as the “Co-Pilot,” which inspired subsequent models and the AVI Reference 765 1953 Re-Edition in 2020.
This reissue served as the foundation for the new Super AVI in the Classic AVI collection, which includes references from the Super AVI, AVI 1953 Edition and Re-Edition, and other models such as the Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph and Aviator 8 Automatic.
The “Super” in Super AVI signifies its size, starting with its 46.31mm diameter and 16.32mm height, making it substantial yet comfortable on the wrist, aided by downward-curving lugs and a sturdy yet flexible leather strap. The modern time-zone concept sets the Super AVI B04 Chronograph GMT apart as a contemporary timepiece, while paying homage to the Mosquito aircraft celebrates Breitling’s role in aviation history.
